9 of our U14’s travelled to Tynemouth to compete with a newly established girls U14’s squad from North Shields RFC.
Egremont started off slowly allowing North Shields to score 2 early try’s from a speedy right winger.
The wake up started with Sophie Crooks making inroads in the North Shields defence with some very strong running and the speedy Bella Wilson in support.
Once the ice was broken the Egremont girls dominated as Bree McKee ran in some excellent solo efforts and Lexi Layton connecting with Mia Barclay to keep the defence guessing where the attack was to go next.
Egremont were able to keep possession of the ball for long periods of the game thanks to the hard working Olivia Caulfield and Mia Caulfield who were heroic in the attacking and defensive rucks.
The Egremont defence also stood firm throughout the game with Ella Wilson leading the way with her dominant tackling and Lilly-may Bulman taking full advantage of the mistakes that the opposition made by scooping up the ball and running wildly at the opposition.
Both teams had a tough day but full Kudos has to go to North Shields for fielding 5 debutant players and working hard until the final whistle.
We look forward to welcoming North Shields to Bleach Green in October for the return fixture.
